A SEAT AT THE TABLE

 

GenZ Girl Gang is creating a new way for activists and organizers to connect with each other and the world through a new series, GenZ Girl Gang: A Seat at the Table. Black womxn are very much on the frontlines and at the forefront of the Black Lives Matter Movement. GenZ Girl Gang wants to provide a safe space for these incredible activists and organizers to conversate and delve deeper into who they are, what they do, and the goals they are trying to accomplish, whilst also amplifying your voices. This is an inside look at the organic bond between womxn and their movements that are changing the world for the better that is meant to serve as a deep look at what connects us as activists, as sisters, as humans.

Brianna (She/Her)

Brianna Taylor (she/her/hers) is a 18 year old first generation Barbadian-American from Long Island, New York and a senior at Friends Academy. Brianna is a passionate advocate for gun violence prevention, criminal justice reform, mental health, and women’s reproductive rights and safety. This is evidenced by her relentless work with March For Our Lives NY as an organizer and lobbyist and as a Black Lives Matter advocate. Brianna has served as the President of her school’s Diversity Committee, a member of the March for Our Lives Long Island Executive Board, an intern for Legislator Kevan Abrahams, a United Nations intern, a Girls’ Leadership Worldwide Alumni (2017) and a 2017 Harvard University Youth Advisory Board member. Currently she serves a youth representative and organizer for New York Assemblywoman Taylor Darling and as the operations lead at The Unplug Collective, a black owned magazine that features and prioritizes the experiences of black women. It is her mission as an activist to bring awareness to the systems of oppression that are plaguing our nation and to hold accountable those who chose to blind themselves to the many injustices in our country.

Eva Maria Lewis is a seeker of liberation, student, artist, and organizer from the south side of Chicago. She is the founder of the Free Root Operation which combats gun violence through a lens of healing and opportunity. Eva wants to see all of her people free, and joyous; it is this vision that drives her work.

Melissa (She/Her)

Melissa (She/Her)

A native of Haiti, Melissa Denizard, (she/her/hers) is a 21-year old pro-Black organizer, activist, and documentarian. Along with providing a grounding for her political ideology and praxis, Black Feminism serves as a guiding light for Melissa’s perpetual self-reflection. Melissa uses several mediums—including public speaking, film, digital media, and the written word—to help innovate Gen Z’s approach to political theory and discourse, specifically in regards to how we address issues relating to race, gender, and social class within the united states’ political framework.

Nia White is a 17 year old political, civil and social justice activist. She is a student at Hampton University majoring in political science and minor with communications. Proud lead organizer of a youth led organization called Freedom March NYC working on policy reform, civic engagement and the mobilization of the community. Being the youngest on the team, she focuses on advocating the voice for the youth and other black women. Working at organizations like Black Women’s Blueprint and WeBelieve Inc. she spreads her message through organizing nonviolent protest throughout NYC features with CNN, Forbes and several other platforms to amplify the work that needs to be done to create a better future for generations to come.

Jade Walker is the Influencer and Branded Partnership Executive at GenZ Girl Gang as well as the facilitator for A Seat at the Table.

Bold Fashion and Brave Activism are the attributes that define Miss Jade Walker. 19 years ago she sashayed out the womb ready to make her mark upon and redefine the fashion world. A fashion merchandising major who made it on the President’s List at LIM College tackling social injustices of the fashion industry and the US in her $3 outfit from the Goodwill. Jade is now the Community Engagement Director at GenZ Girl Gang where she uses her bodacious personality to formulate connections and hold down the ambassador program with an outreach of over 100K people. Her wit, style, and uncompromising attitude when it comes to equity and equality are what continues to propel her forward, while her experiences growing up a low-income young black woman are what keeps her grounded and motivated.
